The Secret of the LORD – Psalm 25:14

Psalm 25:14 ‘The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.’

God does not cast His pearl before swine. But neither can He justly reveal to His own children things that they are not ready to hear. Those who have a true reference for Him will be privileged to enter into His secret. Even concerning Abraham – the friend of God – the Lord said, ‘Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do…?’ We cannot appreciate the peculiar beauties of God’s person and ways, unless we have learned to fear before Him.

It is to those that fear His name that the Sun of righteousness arises with healing in His wings. It is those that fear His name which are hidden from the pride of man and the strife of tongues in the secret of his pavilion. The Scripture has much to say about the blessings that come on those that fear Him. He teaches them wisdom. He lays up good things for them – things which eye hath not seen, nor ear heard. His eye is upon them, for He knows that they hope in His mercy. His angel encamps round about them, and delivers them. He takes pleasure in them. He provides their needs. He fulfils their desires. He pities them, as a Father. We could mention more besides.

Isaiah 8:13 ‘Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.’ If these earthly temples become hushed with the reverence of His name – if our constant breath is ‘Hallowed be Thy name,’ then no image of jealousy shall stand in that sacred and secret place. God Himself shall not need to depart afar off, but will seek us out, and show to us His treasures.

Those that have entered into His covenant – the New Covenant in Christ Jesus – let them fear before His name. They shall never understand the depths of His heavenly fellowship on earth if they have not learned to hate sin. ‘The fear of the LORD is to hate evil.’ (Proverbs 8:13). ‘Ye that love the LORD, hate evil.’ (Psalm 97:10)

The whole world lies in wickedness. The god of this world has blinded their eyes, and they have no fear. ‘The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.’ (Psalm 36:1) If God’s blood-bought children would understand God’s secret – the beauty of God in Jesus Christ – then let us fear before Him today.
